John Flavel (c.1627-1691) was a preacher of the gospel at Dartmouth in Devon throughout the oppressive reign of Charles II. This treatise is based on Revelation 3:17,18. In those uncertain times Flavel was concerned to bring professing Christians to the trial of the Word of God, 'that thereby we may know what we are, what we have, and what we must expect and trust to, at the Lord's coming.
