Although imagination has furnished the details of Jennett Cragg's journey, she is a real character. Set in the 1600's , news came to her of her dear daughter's death in1685 in London, whose husband was banished to the West Indies, leaving  two young children as orphans, determining to bring them back to her country home. Jennett Cragg  was 54 at the time of her famous ride and died in 1699, leaving the inheritance of her heroic deed a treasured tradition in her family.
